FORT WORTH — Feminist icon Gloria Steinem said Gov. Rick Perry has without a doubt created a lasting legacy in Texas.

When the state’s longest-serving governor and former GOP presidential candidate signed off on plans to shrink funding for family planning — and revamped the women’s healthcare program, excluding Planned Parenthood from participating — his place in history became clear, she said.

Gregory,
Next Tuesday, April 9, is Equal Pay Day, marking the additional number of days in 2013 a woman must work to make as much as a man makes for the same work – an unacceptable 92 days.
To commemorate this day and to discuss the work we still have to do to achieve pay equity, I'll be holding a special online video chat with Rep. Terri Sewell and Sarah Jane Glynn of the Center for American Progress.
I would love for you to join us. The chat is all set for Tuesday, April 9, at 3:45 p.m. I hope you can make it.
Join us for an online chat on Equal Pay Day. April 9 at 3:45 pm ET. RSVP now.
While women have made great strides, we still earn only $0.77 to the dollar a men make for equal work. If you are an African-American women, it is $0.64 and if you are a Latina, it is $0.56. This is an issue for which I am committed to fighting.
I look forward to speaking with you about it next week.
Thanks so much for being a part of the Off the Sidelines community and making your voice heard on this important issue. Pay equity is central to fulfilling the untapped potential of women in our society and will be key to getting our economy moving again for everyone.
Yours,
Kirsten
